These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Kai Kameyama, the current operator of Moji ("we", "us", "our", or "Developer"), regarding your use of the Moji iOS app, Android app, website, and related services (collectively, the "App"). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
Moji is a mobile application that provides:
You must be at least 13 years of age (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use this App. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that you have obtained parental or guardian consent to use this App.
Parents or guardians are responsible for monitoring their children's use of the App and ensuring compliance with these Terms.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.

The current iOS app does not offer sign-in or create new Moji accounts. If you signed in with Apple or Google in an older iOS version, the App may use a matching saved legacy session once to reconcile existing on-device and Supabase review progress before retiring the saved login credentials. The Android app offers optional account access through supported email, Apple, or Google sign-in methods and may synchronize supported progress through Supabase while you are signed in.
You retain all rights to learning records you create within the App. Current iOS learning is normally stored locally on the device and is not promised to restore after reinstall or on another device. Android learning is also stored locally, and supported account data may be synchronized through Supabase when you sign in. On an eligible legacy iOS upgrade, matching on-device and Supabase records may be reconciled once. Account and cloud records remain until deleted or otherwise handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during the onboarding process and to update such information to maintain its accuracy.
Moji may offer free access, an introductory trial, or paid features depending on platform, region, and eligibility. The purchase screen presents the offer that applies before you confirm. A Moji Pro subscription may unlock:
Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android and are subject to the applicable store's terms and conditions.
Prices, billing periods, currencies, and available products may vary by platform and region. The exact localized price displayed by the Apple App Store or Google Play at confirmation controls your purchase.
An introductory trial may be available to eligible users. Eligibility and duration are shown on the applicable store purchase screen and determined under that store's rules. You will be charged when an eligible trial ends unless you cancel before the deadline shown by the store.
We may change subscription pricing or available products using the notice, consent, and renewal processes required by the applicable store and law. A price change does not alter a billing period that has already been paid for.
The App, including all content, features, functionality, software, design, text, graphics, logos, and underlying technology, is owned by the Developer and is protected by copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.
Kanji meanings, readings, and related Japanese dictionary data are derived from KANJIDIC2 and JMdict, distributed by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group under Creative Commons licenses. Stroke order data (in future versions) is sourced from KanjiVG. We respect these open data licenses and provide attribution accordingly.
Your SRS review responses and learning preferences are stored locally on your device. Supported data may also be synchronized through Supabase when you use an optional Android account. On an eligible upgrade from a signed-in older iOS version, matching on-device and Supabase records may be reconciled once before the saved login is retired. You retain full ownership of your personal learning records.
"Moji" and associated logos are trademarks of the Developer. You may not use these trademarks without prior written permission.
THE APP IS A LANGUAGE LEARNING STUDY AID AND IS NOT INTENDED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR FORMAL JAPANESE LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION, PROFESSIONAL TUTORING, OR JLPT CERTIFICATION PREPARATION PROGRAMS. Moji uses spaced repetition and passive exposure to support kanji memorization. Results vary by individual, study consistency, and prior knowledge. Passing any JLPT level requires comprehensive preparation beyond kanji alone (grammar, listening, reading comprehension).
We make no guarantees regarding JLPT exam outcomes, language proficiency milestones, or the pace of learning. The JLPT readiness percentages shown in the app are estimates based on kanji exposure and SRS data only.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW (SUBJECT TO MANDATORY CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWS FOR EU CONSUMERS), THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT; WARRANTIES REGARDING ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF CONTENT; OR WARRANTIES THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.
EU Consumer Notice: If you are an EU consumer, this disclaimer does not affect your statutory rights under applicable consumer protection laws, including rights to conformity of digital content and services under Directive (EU) 2019/770.
For EU Consumers: Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable consumer protection laws, or breach of the mandatory conformity requirements under EU law.
Subject to Section 10.1, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, revenue, or data; loss of goodwill or reputation; business interruption; failure to achieve any language learning or exam outcome; or any other intangible losses, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Subject to Section 10.1, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred euros (€100.00).

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of third-party services, their privacy practices or terms of service, or any damages or losses caused by third-party services. Your use of third-party services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice, for any reason. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App. However, we will attempt to provide notice of material changes.
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of these Terms indicates when they were last revised. Material changes will be notified through the App. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
We may assign these Terms and transfer operation of the App in connection with a reorganization, merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of Moji or relevant assets. Any successor remains subject to applicable law and the privacy commitments described in our Privacy Policy. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.
You may stop using the App and delete it from your devices at any time. Deleting the App removes its local learning data from that device, but does not automatically cancel paid subscriptions or delete account and cloud records. Android users can use the in-app account deletion control. If you cannot access that control, or if you signed in through an older iOS version, request verified deletion through our account deletion page. You must cancel a paid subscription separately through the Apple App Store or Google Play account used to purchase it.
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including if you breach these Terms or engage in unauthorized or illegal activity.
Upon termination, all licenses granted to you will immediately terminate and you must cease all use of the App. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including ownership, warranty disclaimers, and limitations of liability. A verified account deletion removes the associated server records described in our Privacy Policy, but does not remove local-only learning data from any device. That local data remains until you delete the App from the device where it is stored.
The App is controlled and operated by the Developer and may be available through the Apple App Store and Google Play in supported regions. We make no representation that the App is appropriate or available for use in all locations. Access to the App from territories where its content is illegal is prohibited.
We strive to make the App accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. If you experience any difficulty accessing any part of the App, please contact us and we will work with you to provide the information or service you seek through an alternative communication method.
We welcome feedback, comments, and suggestions for improvements to the App. You acknowledge and agree that if you submit Feedback, we may use it without restriction or compensation to you, and you hereby grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, modify, and incorporate such Feedback into our products and services.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if that is not possible, severed from these Terms. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of the App and supersede all prior negotiations, representations, and agreements, whether written or oral.
For users in the European Union, these Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the applicable EU country laws, without regard to its conflict of law principles. You are entitled to the protection afforded to consumers under EU consumer protection laws.
For users outside the European Union, these Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
